Serving the community

Neda, a female refugee from Iran

There is a programme in Germany called the "Bundesfreiwilligendienst" (BFD; "Federal Volunteer Service"). In this programme, women and men of all ages get involved in working for the common good outside of their professional and educational commitments. You can also take part in this programme as an asylum seeker.

The programme’s volunteers support employees in charitable facilities. They take care of children, serve food to the homeless and help with gardening work. There are a number of different opportunities. The voluntary service lasts for six to 18 months and may also be performed on a part-time basis. Volunteers must generally be 18 or older. You will receive an allowance and social security for the help you provide. Payments from the BFD programme can be credited against other payments or claims.

You can find more information on the programme, contact information and vacancies here.
