Generally the range of degree courses in Germany is very diverse; there are many options for studying. A good knowledge of German is indispensable for studying. As an alternative – if you have a good knowledge of English – you can also take advantage of English-language courses. An important prerequisite for studying is proof that you are also entitled to do so, i.e. have university entry qualifications ("Abitur") or equivalent schooling or attended a university in your native country.
Advice on the right degree course
If you would like to move to another city to study, you should first consult your immigration authority ("Ausländerbehörde") to find out if this is also allowed.
The employment agencies ("Agenturen für Arbeit") provide vocational advice. Universities and universities of applied sciences ("Fachhochschulen") also have their own advisory offices where you can find out what they have on offer. There are also preparatory courses for foreigners who want to study here, even online at ready4study.de.
