A school-based training course is free in many institutions – usually public ones. But normally you do not receive any payment for your training either. By contrast, in some private schools you have to pay tuition fees. Normally you get work experience during the school-based training course, for which you are usually paid a little.

Your school certificates are important

A school-leaving qualification is a prerequisite for most apprenticeships. You should therefore always clarify in advance whether your school-leaving qualification from your country of origin is also recognised in Germany.
