If you are unsure which apprenticeship you would like to do, the first thing to do is to gather as much information as possible about occupations in Germany. Talk to others who have been working in Germany for some time about their experiences. Enquire with companies about work experience placements to familiarise yourself with occupations and the German world of work. You can find information about occupations on Berufenet, a website of the Federal Employment Agency.
Germany offers many training pathways
If you experience problems with your professional orientation in Germany, then you should definitely contact with your employment agency ("Agentur für Arbeit") or your job centre ("Jobcenter"). These will help you to find a suitable vocational training position and provide you with addresses of companies where you live or throughout Germany.
If you accept a vocational training position, you are free to choose your place of residence in Germany. There are no upper age limits for vocational training.
Tip: You can find out which training occupations are available in the public sector at www.wir-sind-bund.de.
