Shops in Germany do not all have the same opening hours. Opening hours differ from region to region. In most states ("Bundesländer"), large food shops are open from 8.00am to 8.00pm and shops in the town centres from 10.00am to 8.00pm. In smaller towns or villages, the shops close earlier or are only open for a few hours a day. All shops are closed on Sundays and public holidays except for bakeries, shops inside railway stations and petrol stations.
Please note: many hairdressers and some smaller handicraft businesses are closed on Mondays. You can usually find information on opening hours on the door.
